Our neurological physiotherapy team treat a wide range of conditions.
In 2016, Steve’s life took an unexpected turn when surgery to treat a spinal cord tumour resulted in a T9-10 spinal cord injury, leaving him unable to control his lower body and legs.
Despite the challenges, Steve has shown incredible resilience and determination throughout his recovery.
As a long-term patient at Burscough Neuro Physiotherapy, it’s been a privilege to support Steve on his rehabilitation journey. Below, Steve shares his personal experience and the vital role neuro physiotherapy has played in helping him live a full and active life.
“My name is Stephen Miller, and I’m 68 years old.
The year is 2016. The UK holds a referendum on leaving the EU. The last Land Rover Defender rolls off the production line after 68 years. Andy Murray wins Wimbledon for the second time. And I become a paraplegic due to a spinal tumour. Quite a memorable year!
After my surgery, I spent about four months in hospital, where I received excellent physiotherapy to help me adjust to life with a spinal cord injury. Around 12 months after my injury, I found Burscough Neuro Physiotherapy. The team there has been instrumental in improving my overall well-being and helping me stay as mobile and active as possible. They’ve also provided me with practical advice on aids and devices to make day-to-day living easier.
I genuinely enjoy my physiotherapy sessions. They’re hard work, but the effort is always worth it because I feel the benefits.
During the Covid lockdowns, I couldn’t attend physio for a long time, and it was then that I realised just how much my regular sessions were helping me, not just physically but mentally as well.
Living with a spinal cord injury can feel overwhelming, especially in the early days. I’ve been there—it’s tough. But physiotherapy can make a real difference. It’s not just about the exercises; it’s also about having someone to talk to who truly understands your condition. That support is invaluable.”
Steve’s determination to live life to the fullest is truly inspiring. He hasn’t let his spinal cord injury hold him back from doing the things he loves.
We’re incredibly proud of Steve’s determination and the progress he’s made. His story is a powerful testament to the difference neuro physiotherapy can make in the lives of those with spinal cord injuries.
If you or a loved one is living with a spinal cord injury or neurological condition, we hope Steve’s journey provides some inspiration. Neuro physiotherapy can help you achieve more than you might think possible.

Mike sustained a severe head injury which left him with mobility and co-ordination problems. As Mikes wife, it is difficult for me to express how valuable this neuro physiotherapy service is to us both. Mikes quality of life is greatly enhanced by the physios efforts with him each week (thanks for everything).
Mrs M, Mikes wife, about Mike aged 52
The physiotherapy sessions my mother has had from Burscough Physiotherapy following a stroke last year have improved her movements beyond anything we could have expected. The care attention and treatment she has received from the physiotherapists dealing with her have been second to none. I would have no hesitation in recommending Burscough Physiotherapy to anyone in need of their services, they are excellent in every way.

I have found all the physiotherapists who come to my home approachable and helpful. They always take the time to listen and advise. Having the same therapists also helps as they have built up a good relationship with my son

May I once again thank you and your physios for all the work put in on my mum and the wonderful improvement made, not just physically but to her mental wellbeing as well. The girls have worked wonders and she and I can not thank you enough.

Kind and caring physiotherapists who give their best to improve the lives of their patients…I am impressed by the encouragement given to P throughout each session and also for the explanation of what the exercises are hoping to achieve.
